CHKDSK is verifying file data (stage 4 of 5). File data verification completed. CHKDSK is verifying free space (stage 5 of 5). Free space verification completed. The following list describes each of the ChkDsk stages. Stage 1: ChkDsk verifies each file record segment in the Master File Table During stage 1, ChkDsk examines each file record segment in the volume's Master File Table (MFT). A specific file record segment in the MFT uniquely identifies every file and directory on an NTFS volume.
![]() I am running chkdsk /r on a single hard drive configured as a data drive on our server. The server is operational, but since chkdsk is running on the data drive, this drive is unavailable. I kicked off the chkdsk last night, figuring it would finish by the time people arrived into the office this morning. However, it's still running this morning, but when I say running, it appears active in the sense that is says: ![]() 11 percent complete. (15000 of 468080 files processed) But it has been sitting at this 11 percent (15000 file mark) since I arrived into the office almost two hours ago. It appears to be hung, but people need access the data on this disk soon! I have our weekly backup from last Saturday, but that means all this weeks work would be lost if I kill the chkdsk process and the disk doesn't come back. I know that killing the process is not recommended, but I am at a loss of what to do. If it was at least moving, I would let it finish, but if it's just going to hang here at the 11% mark forever, I might as well kill the process sooner rather than later (so I can either see if the disk recovers or start to restore the backup). Is there any hope that chkdsk still might really be running and finish at some point? Also, in task manager, the chkdsk.exe never exceeds 00 CPU usage...appearing completely idle. There is a 78,876 K Mem usage, but that doesn't change either. ![]() Comments are closed.
